Attractor, 2013

The word “Attractor” comes from the Latin word attrahere, to attract. Attractor is the region or state whereby a dynamic system reaches its ultimate condition.

The installation consists of dozens of fluorescent lights assembled into a curve-shape following the trace of a pendulum clock. The size and angle of the installation is site-specific, depending on room size and ceiling height. On the end of the pendulum is a Tesla coil that excites and provokes the fluorescent tubes to emit light as it gently swings back and forth above them. Although the movement of the pendulum is fixed to an X and Y axis, the illumination of the fluorescent tubes remains pseudorandom due to small oscillations in the system.
